College Hill Chapter
Augusta, Georgia

Projects

Through these various projects, the College Hill Chapter is able to support the NSDAR objectives of historic preservation, education, and patriotism.

Veterans:

During National Salute to Hospitalized Veterans Week in February, the chapter members prepare and serve food and beverages to the local VA hospital veterans and staff.  At Christmas many gifts, toiletries and candy-filled poppers are collected from the membership which are then distributed to the two local VA Hospitals.  Each year the chapter sponsors summer students who perform various tasks within the VA facilities.  In addition, several of the College Hill daughters volunteer their own personal time at the VA.

Meadow Garden:  (Historic home of Declaration of Independence signer George Walton)

Chapter members serve at Meadow Garden as docents, gift shop volunteers and gardeners. Each December we help trim the house with seasonal decorations appropriate for a late 1700s home in preparation for the Christmas Holiday Candlelight tours. Throughout the year, our members prepare and serve lunches for other chapters touring the site. We participated in the establishment of a weaver's garden which contains plants that were used as dyes for the yarn during Walton's time.

Education:

The chapter provides monetary support to DAR schools annually. In particular, the chapter collects clothing and other miscellaneous items for distribution to the Tamassee DAR School.  Trips are made periodically by chapter members to provide volunteer assistance to the school.

Since our inception, we have awarded a Good Citizen Medal each year to a deserving high school student.  Over the past twelve years the chapter has also administered the American History Essay Contest to local area schools.  A chapter spring luncheon is given to recognize these outstanding award recipients.

College Hill Chapter proudly presents the ROTC Gold Medal each year to an outstanding graduating cadet at Augusta State University’s awards banquet.

Wounded Warriors Project

During the war on terror our chapter members have provided underwear and socks to wounded warriors hospitalized at Second General in Landstuhl, Germany. We have also provided monthly birthday cakes for the wounded soldiers at the Fort Gordon Eisenhower Hospital located in our community.
